Answering bell
Art, engineering and music students create, tune and perform bells
December, 2010
The cross-disciplinary course among the School of Art & Design, College of Engineering and School of Music, Theatre & Dance called “Shaping the Sound of Bronze” may be the only class in the world that combines campanology, the study of acoustics and signal processing, and the ancient art of bell casting and tuning.
Students had eight weeks to create nine bells and four weeks to tune them. They performed on the bells Monday, Dec. 13 in Tishman Hall.
