UMMA acquires work by alumna
Sculpture inspired by modern dancer, choreographer Martha Graham

The University of Michigan Museum of Art recently acquired Wind Dancers, a two-piece work by A&D alumna Joan Rosenberg-Dent (BFA 1978).
The work is one of a series that was inspired by the master classes Rosenberg-Dent took with Martha Graham. According to the artist, Graham would appear in her long, draped black dress and gesture to demonstrate the movement. Rosenberg-Dent’s work is in several permanent museum collections including the Detroit Institute of Art, the Renwick Gallery, and the Canton Art Institute as well as in many private collections.
Rosenberg-Dent taught at several universities including Pennsylvania State University and Ohio University where she served as Chair of the Department of Ceramics and Glass. Rosenberg-Dent continues to exhibit her work and presents lectures and workshops throughout the US and abroad.
